Malachi (God's Messenger-Farewell Speech) ***************** 1) Circumstances of the written period: In the Old Testament,  the book of Malachi ends with the word "curse" (curse- KJV). To the Jewish people, this was God's message of farewell and seemed like a book written for today's Christian society.  God remained silent until the Voice of John the  Baptist was heard in the wilderness 400 years after this book. It has been 100 years since the Jewish people came to Jerusalem from 70 years of Babylonian slavery. It's been the 3rd and 4th generations. In Babylon, the Jews, unlike slavery in Egypt,  built houses, planted vineyards, traded, and prospered. Only  3-5% of the  Jews returned. Things are not so exciting in Jerusalem now. Enoch (Gen.5:21-24) ***************** Enoch's life was wonderful, having been living with God in heaven for 5,370 years. He lived on this earth in which we are living for 365 years. So he is still living in the body without seeing death for about 5735 years. This Enoch was born in the 622nd year after the creation of Adam. He was taken by God without seeing death, the 987th year since Adam was created. So Enoch, Adam (created year 0), Seth (born year 130). Enos (born in the year 235), Cainan  (325), Mahaliel (395), Jared (460), Enoch (622), Methuselah (687), Lamech  (874), and Enoch lived with those born from the creation of Adam. Adam was 622 years old when Enoch was born. In his 365 years of earthly life, Adam was the only dead person mentioned in the Bible during his time. Abel was murdered before Enoch was born.
