"Reconcile with God and man, and repent"

Three Crosses - Criminals who died with Jesus

Jesus Christ did not die on the cross alone. Usually, we remember a cross. At that time, the Romans way of execution was crucifixion. The penalty under the law, as per the Bible, was stoning. People at that time often might have seen the death of people on the cross.

On that day of  Passover, that is, the 14th of Abib, passers-by passing through Golgotha from Jerusalem would have seen three criminals hanged according to the custom on that day. When they have gone home, they might have said, “I saw three people hanging on the crosses today.”  “Three men - three crosses.” In a way, all three people are seen as the same. All have the same pain, the same thirst, the same heat. They were seen as an object of amusement. Did the Roman soldiers nailed all three accidentally? Or a fulfillment of the Bible verse “counted as one of the wicked”? Or to shame Jesus too much? Or did they intend to finish all the work together?” A man is known by the company he keeps. So, was Jesus crucified with the thieves? I don’t know. But those three men were crucified on the same type of cross. But how many differences are there in those three crosses!?

1) Cross of Rebellion:

We know nothing about this criminal. His birth, upbringing, name, town, and crime he committed are not known. All we know is that he is a criminal. Was he born into a bad family and started stealing as soon as he was born? Born in a good family and brought to this profession by his companions? We don’t know. Did his mother pray for him every day for him to be good? I don’t know. But he is a very hard-hearted criminal. Even in death, his harsh words, blasphemy, did not depart from his mouth. Even death could not break his hard heart. He might have seen Jesus was seen praying for his murderers. He would have seen Jesus comforting the crying women and  His mother. These did not change him. He also throws his words at Jesus. “If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us.” (Luke 23:39). The thief on the side said, “Do you not even fear God,” seeing you are under the same condemnation? (Luk.23:40) and rebukes him. He was rebuked at the time of his death. He didn’t even realize it, even though he was approaching the grave. Dies along with the Savior. But could not find the Savior. He had the opportunity to turn the ‘Cross into a Throne,’ but his mind did not give way. There are still people like this, even in the church. A small cross in their life—a tribulation—will turn them even more bitterly against God. Let us examine ourselves and weed out the rogue.

2) Cross of repentance:

Many believed in Jesus Christ at the peak of His ministry. They saw His miracles and believed. They believed when they saw His healing miracles. They believed when they saw Jesus raise Lazarus from the dead. They believed when they saw that Jesus multiplied ‘bread and fish’ for all. But this criminal believed in Jesus when he was very weak in the flesh. Believing Jesus even when he could not save himself. Jesus is seen bleeding on the cross now. The disciples left him. A time when he was very weak in his worldly life. It’s time to meet death on the cross. This thief did not repent after seeing a sermon or a miracle. Even those who saw such a miracle did not change their minds. But he believes in Him even though He is in a pitiable condition. Many come to Jesus for financial blessings. This thief is in great trouble - a painful death - cross, wound, pain, death, loneliness. But he did not ask about any of these things. Instead, he asks him about his spiritual salvation. He seeks only the Kingdom of God.’ “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.” (Luke 23:42). ‘Remember’ was all he asked. But Jesus said, “Assuredly,  I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.” (Luke 23:43).

The forgiving nature of Jesus Christ, “Father forgive them,” might have changed him. The thief would have known that Jesus was not a criminal just by looking at him. This might have changed the heart of the criminal. He repents with a true heart. He scolds the other thief. He tells him to fear God. He feels that the punishment given to him is due to his crime.

1) He sees the divinity of Jesus Christ.

2) Proclaims His sinlessness.

3) Believes in eternal life.

4) He believes in the coming of the Kingdom of God.

We are without this revelation in our entire Christian life. Salvation is the gift of God. God gives freely when we confess with a sincere heart. If we do some good deeds, the result will be a “Reward.” The thief hanging on this cross cannot do such a thing. There is one to testify that ‘Jesus is the Sinless Lamb,’ even on the cross. Even Pilate said that ‘Jesus was not guilty.’ Many exalted Jesus in his ministry. But no one was there when He was hanging on the cross. But God didn’t leave Jesus alone — there was a thief.

No one could call out him as “Lord” as He hung on the cross, but this criminal calls. “No one can call me Lord except by the Holy Spirit,” Jesus said earlier. Naked, bleeding, helpless, tormented, dying, forsaken by all, He calls Him “Lord” as He hangs on the cross. The dying thief calls. God has appointed one to call like that at this time. God can give him nothing now — except his faith. “God opened the thief’s eyes to realize that he had a future.” His eyes were opened, and he saw that - ‘Jesus is a King - He has a kingdom - He will conquer death - He will rule the life to come.’ He turned the ‘Cross into a Throne.’

3) Cross of Redemption:

So Jesus immediately says, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.” (Luke 23:43). Do we have this revelation? Jesus has said, “In an acceptable time I have heard you, And in the day of salvation I have helped you.” (2 Cor.6:2). Here is the time of grace. This is the day of salvation. The glorious promise has been given. 

Jesus said, “Thou be with me”. The criminal was crucified with Jesus and shared with Jesus the ‘Kingdom of God.’ The Roman government could have crucified the thief for this. Now he is in Abraham’s bosom (Luke 16:22-26).

Like this thief, we may not be at the end of our lives. We should know the Kingdom of God. Reconcile with God and man, and repent. Then, we will be ready for His coming and with Him forever.

மூன்று சிலுவைகள் - இயேசுவோடு மரித்த குற்றவாளிகள்

இயேசு கிறிஸ்து தனியாக சிலுவையில் மரிக்கவில்லை. பொதுவாக நமக்கு ஒரு சிலுவைதான் ஞாபகத்துக்கு வரும். அந்த காலத்தில் சிலுவையில் அறைந்து கொல்வது ரோமர்கள் வழக்கம். நியாயப்பிரமாணத்தின்படி கல்லெறிந்து கொல்வது தண்டனை. அக்காலத்தில் மக்கள் சிலுவை மரணத்தை அடிக்கடி பார்த்திருப்பார்கள். 

அந்த பஸ்கா பண்டிகையன்று, அதாவது ஆபிப் மாதம் 14-ம் தேதி எருசலேமிலிருந்நு கொல்கதாமலை வழியாகச் செல்லும் வழிப்போக்கர்கள்,வழக்கத்தின்படி மூன்று குற்றவாளிகள் தொங்க விட்டிருப்பதைப் பார்த்திருப்பார்கள். தங்கள் வீட்டுக்குச் சென்றவுடன் " இன்று மூன்றுபேர் சிலுவையில் தொங்கினதைப் பார்த்தேன்" என்றிருப்பார்கள். " மூன்று மனிதர்கள்- மூன்று சிலுவைகள் " ஒருவிதத்தில் மூன்று பேருமே ஒன்றுபோல் காணப்படுகிறார்கள்.எல்லாருக்கும் ஒரே வலி,ஒரே தாகம்,ஒரே வெயில். ஒரு வேடிக்கை பொருளாகக் காணப்பட்டார்கள். தற்செயலாக மூன்று பேரையும் அறைந்தார்களா? "அக்கிரமக்காரரில் ஒருவனாக எண்ணப்பட்டார்" என்ற வேதவாக்கியத்தின் நிறைவேறுதலா? இயேசுவை அதிகமதிகமாகக் கேவலப்படுத்தவா? அல்லது எல்லா வேலையையும் ஒன்றாக முடித்துவிட வேண்டும் என்று எண்ணினார்களா?" A man is known by the company he keeps எனவே திருடர்களோடு சிலுவையில் அறைந்தார்களா? எனக்குத் தெரியாது. ஆனால் அந்த மூன்றுபேரும் ஒரேவிதமான சிலுவையில் அறையப்பட்டிருந்தார்கள். ஆனால் அந்த மூன்று சிலுவையிலும் எத்தனை விதமான வேற்றுமைகள்!

1) மறுதலிக்கும் சிலுவை (Cross of Rebellion): 

இந்த குற்றவாளியைப்பற்றி நமக்கு ஒன்றும் தெரியாது. அவனது பிறப்பு, வளர்ப்பு,பெயர், ஊர்,அவன் செய்த குற்றம் தெரியாது. நமக்கு தெரிந்தது அவன் குற்றவாளி.அவன் மோசமான குடும்பத்தில் பிறந்து, பிறந்தவுடன் திருட ஆரம்பித்தனா? நல்ல குடும்பத்தில் பிறந்து அவனது தோழர்களால் இந்த தொழிலுக்கு வந்தானா? நமக்கு தெரியாது. அவன் அம்மா  இவன் நல்லவனாக வரவேண்டுமென்று இவனுக்காக எல்லா நாளும் ஜெபித்தார்களா? தெரியாது. ஆனால் அவன் மிகவும் கடின மனதுள்ளத்திருடன், குற்றவாளி. மரணத்தருவாயிலும் அவனது கடினமான சொற்கள், தேவ தூஷணம், அவன் வாயிலிருந்துப் போகவில்லை. மரணம்கூட அவன் கடின மனதை உடைக்க முடியவில்லை. இயேசு அவரைக் கொலை செய்தவர்களுக்காக ஜெபித்ததைப் பார்த்திருப்பான். அழும் பெண்களை, தனது தாயை ஆறுதல்படுத்தினதை பார்த்திருப்பான். இவைகள் அவனை மாற்றவில்லை. அவனும் தனது மொழிகளை இயேசுவை நோக்கி வீசுகிறான். " நீ கிறிஸ்துவானால் உன்னையும் எங்களையும் இரட்சித்துக்கொள்" ( லூக்.23:39) என்று இகழ்ந்தான். பக்கத்திலிருக்கும் கள்ளன் " நீ ஆக்கினைக் குட்பட்டவனாக இருந்தும் தேவனுக்குப் பயப்படுகிறதில்லையா?" ( லூக்.23:40) என்று அவனைக்கடிந்து கொள்கிறான். மரண வேளையில் உணர்த்தப்பட்டும் உணர்வடையவில்லை. கல்லறைக்குச் செல்லும் தருவாயில் கூட உணரவில்லை. இரட்சகரோடு மரிக்கிறான். ஆயினும் இரட்சகரை கண்டுகொள்ளவில்லை. சிலுவையை சிங்காசனமாக மாற்ற அவகாசமிருந்தது, ஆயினும் அவன் மனது இடம் கொடுக்கவில்லை. இப்பேர்ப்பட்ட மக்கள் இப்போதும் உண்டு, சபையிலும் உண்டு. அவர்களது வாழ்க்கையில் ஒரு சிறு சிலுவை- கஷ்டம் வந்திருக்கும்- அது அவர்களை இன்னும் அதிக கசப்பாக தேவனுக்கு எதிராக மாற்றிவிடும். நாம் நம்மை சோதித்துப்பார்த்து முரட்டாட்டத்தை களைவோம். 

2) மனம் திரும்பும் சிலுவை. (Cross ofRepentance):

இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் ஊழியத்தின் உச்சக் கட்டத்தில் இருக்கும்போது அநேகர் அவரை விசுவாசித்தார்கள். அவரது அற்புதங்களைப் பார்த்து விசுவாசித்தார்கள். அவர் குணப்படுத்தினதைப்பார்த்து விசுவாசித்தார்கள். மரித்த லாசருவை உயிரோடு எழுப்பினதைப் பார்த்து விசுவாசித்தார்கள். அப்பத்தையும் மீனையும் எல்லாருக்கும் பெருகப்பண்ணினதைப் பார்த்து விசுவாசித்தார்கள்.காற்றையும், கடலையும் அமைதியாக்கினது கண்டு விசுவாசித்தார்கள். ஆனால் இந்தக் கள்ளனோ இயேசு அவர் சரீரத்தில் மிகவும் பெலவீனமாய் இருக்கையில் அவரை விசுவாசித்தான். இயேசு-அவரையே இரட்சிக்க முடியாத சூழ்நிலையில் அவரை விசுவாசித்தான். அவர் இரத்தம் வடிந்தவராகக் காணப்படுகிறார். சீஷர்கள் கைவிட்டு விட்டார்கள். தன்னுடைய உலக வாழ்க்கையில் மிகவும் தோய்ந்து காணப்பட்ட நேரம். சிலுவையில் மரணத்தை சந்திக்கும் நேரம். ஒரு பிரசங்கத்தையோ, அற்புதத்தைக் கண்டோ இந்தத் திருடன் மனம் மாறவில்லை. அப்படி அற்புதத்தை கண்டவர்கள் கூட, மனம்மாறவில்லை. ஆனால் இவன் அவர் பரிதபிக்கப்பட்  நிலையில் அவரை விசுவாசிக்கிறான். அநேகர் பொருளாதார ஆசீர்வாதங்களுக்காக இயேசுவிடம் வருகிறார்கள்.இந்தத் திருடன் மிகவும் கஷ்டத்தில் இருக்கிறான்- சிலுவை, காயம்,வலி,மரணம்,தனிமை- வலி நிறைந்த மரணம். ஆனால் இவைகள் ஒன்றையும் குறித்து இயேசுவிடம் கேட்கவில்லை. மாறாக  அவன் அவனது ஆவிக்குரிய இரட்சிப்பை குறித்தே அவரிடம் கேட்கிறான். தேவனுடைய இராஜியத்தை மட்டுமே தேடுகிறான். " ஆண்டவரே, நீர் உம்முடைய ராஜ்யத்தில் வரும்போது அடியேனை நினைத்தருளும் ".( லூக்.23:42) அவன் கேட்டது " நினைத்தருளும்" அவ்வளவுதான். ஆனால் இயேசுவோ " இன்றைக்கு என்னுடனேகூட பரதீசிலிருப்பாய்" என்றார்( லூக்.23:43).

இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் மன்னிக்கும் குணம் " பிதாவே இவர்களுக்கு மன்னியும்" என்பது இவனை மாற்றியிருக்கலாம். திருடனுக்கு அவரை பார்த்த மாத்திரத்தில் இவர் குற்றவாளியல்ல என்று தெரிந்திருக்கும். கள்ளனது இருதயத்தில் ஒரு மாற்றம். அவன் உண்மை மனதோடு மனம் திரும்புகிறான். மற்ற கள்ளனைக் கடிந்து கொள்கிறான். தேவனுக்குப்பயப்படச் சொல்லுகிறான். தனக்கு கொடுக்கப்பட்ட தண்டனை தன் குற்றத்துக்கே என உணருகிறான்.இவன் 

1) இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் தெய்வீகத்தன்மையைக் கண்டு கொள்கிறான்  

2) அவரது பாவமில்லாமையை அறிக்கையிடுகிறான். 

3) நித்திய ஜீவனை நம்புகிறான். 

4) தேவனுடைய இராஜ்யம் வருவதை விசுவாசிக்கிறான்.

நாம் நமது முழுக் கிறிஸ்தவ வாழ்க்கையிலும் இந்த வெளிப்பாடு இல்லாமல் இருக்கிறோம். இரட்சிப்பு தேவனுடைய ஈவு. நாம் உண்மை மனதோடு அறிக்கையிடும்போது இலவசமாக தேவன் அருளுகிறார். நாம் ஏதாவது கிரியை செய்தால் அதற்கு பலனாக வருவது " Reward "( பலன் ")ஆகிவிடும். இந்த சிலுவையில் தொங்கும் கள்ளனால் அப்படி ஒரு கிரியையும் செய்யமுடியாது. 

இயேசு குற்றமற்ற ஆட்டுக்குட்டி என்று சிலுவையிலும் அறிக்கையிட ஒருவன் இருக்கிறான். பிலாத்துகூட 'குற்றமற்றவர்' எனறு கூறினான். இயேசுவினுடைய ஊழியத்தில் அநேகர் உயர்த்திக் கூறினார்கள். ஆனால் சிலுவையில் தொங்கும்போது அவர்களில் ஒருவன்கூட இல்லை. ஆனால் தேவன் இயேசுவை வெறுமையாக விடவில்லை - ஒரு கள்ளன் இருக்கிறான். அவர் சிலுவையில் தொங்கும்போது "ஆண்டவரே" என்று ஒருவராலும் அழைக்க முடியவில்லை. ஆனால் இவன் அழைக்கிறான். " பரிசுத்தாவியினால் அன்றி,ஒருவனும் என்னை ஆண்டவரே என்று அழைக்கமுடியாது " என்று இயேசு சொல்லியிருந்தார். நிர்வாணமாக,இரத்தம் வடிகிறவராக,உதவியற்றவராக,ஆக்கினைக்கு தீர்க்கப்பட்டவராக,மரித்துக்கொண்டிருப்பவராக,எல்லாராலும் கைவிடப்பட்டவராக அவர் சிலுவையில் தொங்கிக் கொண்டிருக்கும்போது அவரை ஆண்டவரே என்று அழைக்கிறான். மரித்துக் கொண்டிருக்கும் கள்ளன் அழைக்கிறான். தேவன் இந்த நேரத்திலும் அப்படி அழைக்க ஒருவனை நியமித்திருக்கின்றார். அவனுக்கு இப்பொழுது தேவன் ஒன்றும் கொடுக்க முடியாது- அவன் விசுவாசத்தைத் தவிர. அவன் " தனக்கு ஒரு எதிர்காலம் இருப்பதை உணர தேவன் அந்த கள்ளனின் கண்ணைத் திறந்துவிட்டார் ". அவன் கண் திறக்கப்பட்டதினால் -' இயேசு ஒரு ராஜா - அவருக்கு ஒரு ராஜ்யம் உண்டு - அவர் மரணத்தை ஜெயிப்பார்- இனி வரும் ஜீவனை ஆள்வார்' என்று கண்டு கொண்டான். இவன் சிலுவையை சிங்காசனமாக மாற்றிவிட்டான். 

3) மன்னிக்கும் சிலுவை (Cross of Redemption):

எனவே இயேசு உடனே சொல்லுகிறார் " இன்றைக்கு என்னுடனேகூட பரதீசிலிருப்பாய்"(லூக்.23:43"). நமக்கு இந்த வெளிப்பாடு உண்டா? ." அனுக்கிரக காலத்திலே நான்உனக்கு செவி கொடுத்து இரட்சண்ய நாளிலே உனக்கு உதவிசெய்வேன் " (2 கொரி.6:2).என்று சொல்லி இருக்கிறாரே. இதோ இப்பொழுதே அனுக்கிரகக்காலம்.இப்பொழுதே இரட்சண்ய நாள். மகிமையான வாக்குத்தத்தம் கொடுக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறது. 

இயேசு சொன்னார் " Thou be with me " " என்னோடு கூட" என்று. இயேசுவோடுகூட சிலுவையில் அறையப்பட்டான், இயேசுவோடுகூட தேவனுடைய ராஜ்யத்தில் பங்கு பெற்றான். இதற்காக ரோம அரசாங்கம் அந்த கள்ளனை சிலுவையில் அறைந்திருக்கலாம். இப்பொழுது இவன்- ஆபிரகாம் மடியில் இருக்கிறான்.(லூக்.16:22-26).

நாம் இந்தக் கள்ளனைப்பொல கண்ணை மூடும் நேரத்தில் இல்லாமல் இருக்கலாம். நாமும் தேவனுடைய ராஜ்யத்தை அறிய வேண்டும் ; தேவனோடும் மனிதரோடும் ஒப்புரவாக வேண்டும்;  மனம் திரும்ப வேண்டும். அப்பொழுது அவர் வருகைக்கு ஆயத்தமாய் இருப்போம். 

தேவன் உங்களோடு இருப்பாராக.
