"Elijah confronts Ahab's idolatry bravely."

A mother and daughter

After the reign of King Solomon, the nation of Israel was divided into two parts: the 10-tribe country of Israel in the north and the 2-tribe country of Judea in the south.

This northern Israel had no king from the line of David and no priests from the family of Aaron. So they worshiped foreign gods instead of Jehovah.

A woman named Jezebel rose to power in Israel, and her daughter Athaliah in Judea. Since then, Baal worship has come to these countries. Murders and destruction came into the kingdom.

Let us see how these regimes came about. Omri became king of Israel. His son Ahab became king after him. Ahab married Jezebel, the daughter of the king of Sidon. She came with her Baal god and 850 Baal prophets and filled Samaria with Baal idols. King Jehoshaphat of Judah (beloved of the Lord) became a relative of Ahab by marrying his son to Ahab's daughter, Athaliah, and his son Joram. This was his big mistake. And the names of Ahab's sons were Ahaziah and Joram. Jehoshaphat's son's name was Jehoram. Joram's son's name was Ahaziah. Baal worship entered Samaria through Jezebel and Judah through her daughter Athaliah. You can see the destruction caused by this.

According to the prophet Elijah, Samaria had no rain for three years. Famine. After three years, Elijah came to Ahab and offered a sacrifice to Jehovah to prove that the Lord was God. The Lord accepted the sacrifice by fire. There was an awakening among the people. Elijah killed the prophets of Baal at the banks of the Kishon River.

Jezebel learned this news through King Ahab. She swore by the gods that she would kill Elijah. Knowing this, Elijah was afraid and fled to Beersheba, praying "I must die, take me o Lord". He slept under a broom tree. The angel knocked him awake and let him go up to Horeb. God told him to anoint Hazael as Syria's king, Jehu as king of Israel, and Elisha as Elijah's replacement.

After this, Ahab wanted to buy Naboth's land near his palace in Jezreel. To refuse to give Naboth the land, Jezebel slyly sets up witnesses and murders Naboth. Ahab went to take the land. There, Elijah came and said to Ahab, “In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth, dogs shall lick your blood. Ahab's family will be utterly destroyed." Jezebel, who was this mastermind, Elijah said, "The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel. The dogs shall eat whoever belongs to Ahab and dies in the city, and the birds of the air shall eat whoever dies in the field.”

Ahab and Jehoshaphat became very close in their relationship. Ahab gathered Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah, and went to war against Syria. (1 Kings 22:34) An arrow shot by someone without thinking hit the holes in Ahab's shield. In the evening, he died. When his armor was washed in the pool of Samaria, 'the dogs licked up his blood, as Elijah had said. (1 Kings 22:38).'  Then, his son Ahaziah became king. He died in Samaria by falling from the top of his house. (2 Kings 1:17).

Now Ahaziah's brother Joram (Jezebel's son) became the king of Samaria. (2 Kings 3:1). Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah, married his son Joram (his name was Joram) to Jezebel's daughter Athaliah. Through her Baal worship came Judah. (2 Kings 8:16-18). Jehoshaphat's son died of an intestinal disease, whom Elijah had warned by letter, and did not repent. (2 Chronicles 21:20).

Joram was the son of Jehoshaphat. As the Arabs killed all but his youngest son, Ahaziah, Ahaziah became king of Judah (2 Chronicles 22:1). His mother was Jezebel's daughter Athaliah. Athaliah counseled him to act wickedly in Judah as well. (2 Chronicles 22:3)

Jehu was anointed as king over Israel by the prophet Elisha. (2 Kings 9:6). Jehu went to Jezreel. King Ahaziah of Judah had come to see Joram, the son of his grandmother (Jezebel), who was sick there. Jehu shot an arrow and killed Jezebel's son, Joram. He threw Jehoram's body into Naboth's garden. 'Elijah's word to Ahab's son was also fulfilled.'

Seeing this, Ahaziah, the king of Judah who had come there (the grandson of Jehoshaphat, the son of Athaliah, the grandson of Jezebel), fled in the middle of the garden (2 Kings 9:27). Jehu cut him down and killed him. Jezebel's son and daughter's grandson were murdered on the same day.

Jehu came from there to Jezreel. Jezebel dressed herself and peered through the window. He asked the people there to push her down through the window. She fell and died, and her blood splattered. The dogs ate all the body parts except the skull and skull, the feet, and the palms of her hands. 'Elijah's word was fulfilled (2 Kings 9:33).'

This was not enough; Jehu killed 70 of Ahab's sons in Jezreel (2 Kings 10:1-7). He also killed 42 brothers of Ahaziah, king of Judah, who had come there from Judah (2 Kings 10:14).

Jehu cunningly summoned all the prophets of Baal to Baal's temple and slaughtered them all. Thus, Jezebel's power-play (in Israel) in Samaria came to an end.

The frenzy began in Athaliah in Judah. Athaliah, learning that her son Ahaziah had been murdered in Jezreel, took over Judea. She killed all the royal family in Judah. (This was Satan's plot to prevent Jesus from coming to David's dynasty.) But Ahaziah's sister (the wife of the high priest Jehoiada) stole Ahaziah's son Joash (2 Chronicles 22:11) and kept him in the temple for 6 years. In the 7th year, the priest gathered the entire congregation and made the 6-year-old Joash the king. On learning this, Athaliah tore her clothes, shouting, "treason." They hacked her to death on the ‘Horse door.’ and Jezebel's daughter died. (2 Chronicles 23:15)

King Joash of Judah reigned with valor and restored the temple of the Lord. As long as Jehoiada was the high priest, he walked in the favor of the Lord. After his death, Joash turned wickedly and worshiped Baal idols of Athaliah, his mother. Jehoiada's son Zechariah, the priest, warned the king. Joash, who was raised in the temple, killed Zechariah, the priest at the temple. This is the spirit of Jezebel - causing havoc in Judah as well. The Syrians came and put Joash in great pain. Government servants killed Joash in his bed in the palace. 

The spirit of Jezebel, brought by Ahab, destroyed Israel and Judah for many years after the prophets Elijah and Elisha.

Let us hold on to God's grace to avoid this 
spirit in our Christian walk, church, and society.

ஒரு தாயும் மகளும்

சாலொமோன் அரசன் காலத்திற்கு பிறகு சமஸ்த இஸ்ரவேல் நாடு வடக்கே 10- கோத்திரங்கள் அடங்கிய இஸ்ரவேல் நாடாகவும், தெற்கே 2- கோத்திரங்கள் அடங்கிய யூதேயா நாடாகவும் இரண்டாகப் பிரிந்தது. 

இந்த வடக்கு இஸ்ரவேலுக்கு தாவீதின் வம்சத்தில் வந்த அரசன் இல்லை, ஆரோன் குடும்பத்தில் வந்த ஆசாரியர்கள் இல்லை. எனவே இவர்கள் யெகோவாவுக்குப் பதில் அன்னிய தேவர்களை வணங்கினார்கள். 

யேசபேல் என்ற பெண் இஸ்ரவேலிலும், அவள் மகள் அத்தாலியாள் யூதேயாவிலும் ஆட்சி அதிகாரத்தினுள் புகுந்தார்கள். அது முதல் இந்நாடுகளில் பாகால் வழிபாடு வந்தது. அரசாட்சியில் கொலைகள், அழிவுகள் வந்தது.

இந்த ஆட்சிகள் எப்படி வந்தது என்று பார்ப்போம். இஸ்ரவேலில் உம்ரி அரசனானான். இவனுக்கு பின் மகன் ஆகாப் அரசன் ஆனான். ஆகாப் சீதோனியரின் அரசன் மகள் யேசபேலை திருமணம் பண்ணினான். அவள் தன்னுடைய பாகால் கடவுளோடும், 850 பாகல் தீர்கத்தரிசிகளோடும் வந்து சமாரியாவை பாகல் விக்கிரங்களால் நிரப்பினாள். யூதாவின் அரசன் யோசபாத் (கர்த்தருக்குப் பிரியமானவன்) தன் மகன் யோராமுக்கு ஆகாபின் மகள் அத்தாலியாளை திருமணம் பண்ணிவைத்ததின் மூலம் அவனுக்கு சம்பந்தி ஆனான். இதுஅவன்செய்த பெரிய தவறு. மேலும் ஆகாபின் மகன்களின் பெயர்கள் அகசியா, யோராம். அது போல யோசபாத்தின் மகன் பெயர் யோராம். யோராம் மகன் பெயரும் அகசியா. சமாரியாவில் பாகால் வழிபாடு யேசபேல் மூலமும், யூதாவில் அவள் மகள் அத்தாலியாள் மூலமும் பிரவேசித்தது. இதனால் வந்த அழிவுகளைக் காணலாம். 

எலியா தீர்க்கத்தரிசியின் வாக்கின்படி சமாரியாவில் 3- வருடங்கள் மழை பெய்யவில்லை. பஞ்சம். 3- வருடங்களுக்குப் பிறகு எலியா ஆகாபிடம் வந்து கர்த்தர் தெய்வம் என்று பாகால் தீர்கத்தரிசிகளின் முன் நிரூபிக்க பலி செலுத்தினான். கர்த்தர் அக்கினியால் பலியை அங்கிகரித்தார். மக்கள் மத்தியில் எழுப்புதல் வந்தது. பாகாலின் தீர்கத்தரிசிகள், கீசோன் ஆற்றங்கரையில் எலியாவால் கொல்லப்பட்டார்கள். 

இந்தச் செய்தி ஆகாப் அரசன் மூலம் யேசபேல் அறிந்தாள். அவள் எலியாவைக் கொல்வேன் என்று அவள் தேவர்கள் பேரில் சபதம் செய்தாள். இதை அறிந்த எலியா பயந்து பெயர்செபாவுக்குப் ஓடிப்போய்  'நான் சாகவேண்டும் என்னை எடுத்துக் கொள்ளும்' என்று ஜெபம் பண்ணி, சூரை செடியின் கீழ் படுத்து தூங்கினான். தூதன் அவனை தட்டி எழுப்பி, ஓரேப் மட்டும் போக வைத்தான். அங்கு தேவன் அவனிடம், ஆசகேலை சீரியாவின் அரசனாகவும், யெகூவை இஸ்ரவேலின் அரசனாகவும், எலிசாவை, எலியாவுக்குப் பதிலும் அபிஷேகம் பண்ணச் சொன்னார்.

இதன் பிறகு ஆகாப் யெஸ்ரயேலில் அவன் அரண்மனைக்கு அருகில் இருக்கும் நாபோத்தின் நிலத்தை வாங்க ஆசைப்பட்டான். நாபோத் நிலத்தைக் கொடுக்க மறுக்க, யேசபேல் தந்திரமாய் சாட்சிகளை ஏற்படுத்தி நாபோத்தை கொலை செய்தாள். ஆகாப் நிலத்தை எடுக்க சென்றான். அங்கே எலியா வந்து, ஆகாபிடம் "நாய்கள் நாபோத்தின் இரத்தத்தை நக்கின இடத்தில் உன்னுடைய இரத்தத்தையும் நக்கும். ஆகாப் குடும்பம் முற்றிலும் அழியும்". இதற்கு மூளையாக இருந்த யேசபேலை "நாய்கள் யெஸ்ரயேல் மதில் அருகே தின்னும், ஆகாபின் சந்ததியில் சாகிறவனை பட்டணத்தில் நாய்களும், வெளியில் பறவைகளும் தின்னும்" என்றான்.

ஆகாபும், யோசபாத்தும் மிகவும் உறவில் நெருங்கி விட்டார்கள். ஆகாப் யூதாவின் அரசன் யோசபாத்தைக் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு சீரியாவின் மேல் யுத்தத்துக்கு சென்றான். (1இரா. 22:34) ஒருவன் நினையாமல் எய்த அம்பு ஆகாபின் கவசத்தின் சந்துகளுக்குள் பட்டது. மாலையில் ஆகாப் மரித்தான் . சமாரியாவின் குளத்தில் அவன் கவசத்தைக் கழுவும் போது, 'எலியா சொன்னது போல அவன் இரத்தத்தை நாய்கள் நக்கின.' (1இரா.22:38). பின் அவன் மகன் அகசியா அரசன் ஆனான். இவன் சமாரியாவில் தன் வீட்டு மாடியில் இருந்து விழுந்து மரித்தான் (2 இரா.1:17).

இப்பொழுது அகசியாவின் சகோதரன் யோராம் (யேசபேலின் மகன்) சமாரியாவின் அரசன் ஆனான் ( 2 இரா.3:1). யூதாவின் அரசன் யோசபாத் , தனது மகன் யோராமுக்கு (இவன் பெயரும் யோராம்) யேசபேலின் மகள் அத்தாலியாளைத் திருமணம் செய்து வைத்தான். இவள் மூலம் பாகால் வழிபாடு யூதாவுக்குள்ளும் வந்து விட்டது (2 இரா.8:16-18). எலியா கடிதம் மூலம் எச்சரித்தும் யோராம் திருந்தாதலால், எலியாவின் வாக்கின்படி விரும்புவார் இல்லாமல் யோசபாத்தின் மகன் குடல் வியாதியால் மரித்தான் ( 2 நாளா.21:20).

 யோசபாத்தின் மகன் யோராம். இவன் இளைய குமாரன் அகசியா தவிர மற்ற அனைவரையும் அரேபியர்கள் கொன்று போட்டதால், அகசியா யூதாவின் அரசன் ஆனான் (2.நாளா 22:1). இவன் தாய் யேசபேலின் மகள் அத்தாலியாள். இவன் யூதாவிலும் துன்மார்க்கமாய் நடக்க அத்தாலியாள் அவனுக்கு ஆலோசனை வழங்கினாள் ( 2 நாளா.22:3).

யெகூ, எலிசா தீர்கத்தரிசியால் இஸ்ரவேலில் அரசனாக அபிஷேகம் பண்ணப்பட்டான் (2.இரா.9:6). யெகூ யெஸ்ரயேலுக்குப் போனான். அங்கே வியாதியாய் இருந்த தனது பாட்டி(யேசபேல்) -ன் மகன் யோராமைப் பார்க்க யூதாவின் அரசன் அகசியா வந்திருந்தான். யெகூ அம்பு எய்து யேசபேலின் மகன் யோராமைக் கொன்றான். யோராமின் சரீரத்தை நாபோத்தின் தோட்டத்தில் வீசினான். 'எலியாவின் வாக்கு ஆகாபின் மகனுக்கும் நிறைவேறியது.' 

இதைக் கண்ட, அங்கு வந்திருந்த யூதாவின் அரசன் அகசியா (யோசபாத்தின் பேரன், அத்தாலியாளின் மகன், யேசபேலின் பேரன்) தோட்டத்தின் நடுவே தப்பி ஓடினான் (2.இரா.9:27). யெகூ அவனை வெட்டி கொன்றான். யேசபேலின் மகனும், மகள் வழி பேரனும் ஒரே நாளில் கொலை செய்யப்பட்டார்கள். 

யெகூ அங்கிருந்து யெஸ்ரயேலுக்கு வந்தான். யேசபேல் தன்னை சிங்காரித்துக்கொண்டு ஜன்னல் வழியாய் எட்டிப் பார்த்தாள். அவளை ஜன்னல் வழியாக அங்கிருந்தவர்களிடம் கீழே தள்ளச் சொன்னான். இரத்தம் தெறிக்க விழுந்து செத்தாள். மண்டையோடும், உள்ளங்கையும் தவிர மற்ற எல்லா உடல் பாகங்களையும் நாய்கள் தின்று போட்டது. 'எலியாவின் வாக்கு அப்படியே நிறைவேறியது ( 2 இரா.9:33).' 

இதுவும் போதாது என்று, யெகூ ஆகாபின் குமாரர்கள் 70 பேரை யெஸ்ரயேலில் கொலை செய்தான் (2.இரா.10:1-7). மீண்டும் யூதாவில் இருந்து அங்கு வந்திருந்த, யூதா அரசன் அகசியாவின், 42 சகோதரர்களையும் வெட்டிக் கொன்றான் ( 2 இரா.10:14).

யெகூ தந்திரமாய் பாகாலின் தீர்கத்தரிசிகள் அனைவரையும் பாகாலின் கோவிலுக்குள் வரவழைத்து அனைவரையும் வெட்டிக் கொன்றான். இப்படி யேசபேலின் அதிகாரம் - ஆட்டம், (இஸ்ரவேலில்) சமாரியாவில், முடிவுக்கு வந்தது. 

யூதாவில் அத்தாலியாளில் வெறி ஆரம்பித்தது. யெஸ்ரயேலில் தனது மகன் அகசியா கொலை செய்யப்பட்டதை அறிந்த அத்தாலியாள், யூதேயாவின் ஆட்சியை கைப்பற்றினாள். இவள் யூதாவில் அரச குடும்பத்திலுள்ள எல்லாரையும் கொலை செய்தாள். (தாவீது வம்சத்தில் இயேசு வருவதைத் தடுக்க சாத்தானின் சதி இது.) ஆனால் அகசியாவின் சகோதரி, ( இவள் பிரதான ஆசாரியன் யோய்தாவின் மனைவி) அகசியாவின் குமாரன் யோவாஸை களவாய் எடுத்து (2.நாளா.22:11) ஆலயத்தில் 6 வருடம் பாதுகாத்தாள். 7-ம் வருடம் ஆசாரியன் திடன் கொண்டு, சபையார் எல்லாரையும் கூடி வரச்செய்து, 6- வயது யோவாஸை ராஜா ஆக்கினான் (2.நாளா.23:11). இதை அறிந்த அத்தாலியாள் "துரோகம்" என்று கத்திக்கொண்டு தன் வஸ்திரத்தை கிழித்தாள். அவளை குதிரை வாசலில் வைத்து வெட்டிக் கொன்றார்கள. யேசபேலின் மகள் செத்தாள்.(2 நாளா.23:15)

யூதாவின் அரசன் யோவாஸ் திடன் கொண்டு ஆட்சிசெய்து, கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்தை புதுப்பித்தான். பிரதான ஆசாரியன் யோய்தா இருக்கும் வரை, இவன் கர்த்தருக்கு பிரியமாய் நடந்தான். அவன் மரணத்திற்குப் பிறகு தன் தாய் அத்தாலியாள் வழி-துன்மார்க்கமாய், பாகால் சிலைகளை சேவித்தான். யோய்தாவின் மகன் ஆசாரியன் சகரியா அரசனை எச்சரித்தான். ஆலயத்திலே வளர்க்கப்பட்ட யோவாஸ் அங்கு வைத்தே, ஆசாரியன் சகரியாவைக் கொன்றான். இது யேசபேலின் ஆவி- யூதாவிலும் அழிவை உண்டு பண்ணிற்று. சீரியர்கள் வந்து யோவாஸை மகா வேதனைக் குட்படுத்தினர். அரசு ஊழியர்கள் அரண்மனையில் வைத்தே யோவாஸை அவன் படுக்கையில் கொலை செய்தார்கள்.

ஆகாப் மூலம் கொண்டு வரப்பட்ட யேசபேலின் ஆவி அனேக வருடங்களாக, எலியா, எலிசா தீர்கத்தரிசிகள் காலங்களுக்குப்பிறகும், இஸ்ரவேலையும், யூதாவையும் அழிவுக்குட்படுத்தியது. 

நமது கிறிஸ்தவ ஓட்டத்தில், நமது சபை, சமுதாயத்தில் 

இந்த ஆவி உள்ளே புகாதவாறு விலகி எச்சரிக்கையாக 

இருக்க தேவகிருபையைப் பற்றிக்கொள்வோம்.
